She Grows Appeal

TREE AID is an International Development charity and a member of The Women’s Business Club.

TREE AID helps people in the drylands of Africa to lift themselves out of poverty and protect their environment. People here live in some of the toughest conditions on earth and trees are essential to their survival. Trees provide nutrition, generate income and help to create a healthy environment. TREE AID works with local communities to help them protect and grow trees, for themselves and for future generations.

The Women’s Business Club is a passionate supporter of TREE AID and we are delighted to inform our members that any donations you make from April -30th June will be doubled by the UK government.

With your support, TREE AID will help women in Mali to use the power of trees to grow food and earn an income. They provide the training and tools a woman needs to turn tree products into nutritious food and goods, so she will be able to feed her children and produce goods to sell at the market.

Setou is one of the 1,000 women who will benefit from the She Grows appeal. She says: “Trees are vital, especially for us women. Without trees, we wouldn’t eat.”

“The worry about food and the health of the children is constant in all women here. We are always looking to get enough food for our children which is becoming more difficult.”

Setou told us she wants a different life for her children. “I didn’t go to school. I think it ruined my entire life. I am sure I wouldn’t have been who I am. Agriculture is all we do, and we are entirely dependent on the rain. If I had gone to school, I could have more ways to earn money and support my family.”

Setou is hopeful for the future if she can get tools and training she needs.

“Training women in transforming forest products, in soap-making, and in other money-making activities would be a huge asset for women here. I am hopeful that we will have enough food to eat all year and I want my children to study at school.”

Match funding from the UK government will be used to help 1,000 women in Koulikoro, Mali to grow their way out of poverty using the power of trees.

Your donation will fund similar work helping communities across the drylands of Africa.
