How To Make The Most Of Working From Home

When you have a setup in a team-oriented office environment, it can be very awkward when you’re sent home to work. On the one hand; you’re pretty content as you don’t have to get up and commute. On the other hand; you’re thrust into a different space and the entire way of working shifts into a new, strange place. Now, the chances are that you’re probably working from home right now – or are about to begin working from home. This dreaded COVID-19 virus is playing a huge part in the strain of people’s professional lives currently, so you’re probably working out of your abode at this moment in time.

The coronavirus might not be the only reason you’re working from home, of course. You may have just begun a new way of working! Whatever your situation is, however, the first few days and weeks can be pretty challenging. If you’re struggling or you feel as though you may struggle to start with, here are some things you can do:

Set Up Your Office Properly

When you have a proper working environment, that’s when you can get going and start acting productively. When you’re in a laid back place, you’ll act according to where you’re sat – it’s just how our minds work. Some people are driven and can focus in any area, but the majority need to be in the right area. If you’re sitting on the couch in front of the TV, then you’re probably not going to get as much done as you’d like.

Isolate Your Work Space From Everything Else

Following on from the previous point, you’ll need to make sure the office area is, and remains, absolutely professional. Sure, it’s going to be the exact same as your actual office in the city or town, but you can do little things to make it similar. Shut away recreational aspects. Keep everything organized. If you have kids, make sure they stay away so as not to distract you.

Have All Software And Systems Ready To Go

It can be quite a pain in the backside, but making sure everything is installed and ready – just like your normal workplace – is pretty essential. You’ll want to have everything sorted so that you can work seamlessly and behave with the same professionalism as usual. So where it’s Power Platform, Templafy, QuickBooks or whatever you use, be sure to get it handled and ready nice and early!

Keep Your Phone Alive And Charged

Your phone can act as a distraction from time to time, but you’re probably going to need it to communicate with your co-workers et al. If that thing is dead, then you’re not going to be able to get messages across that you perhaps should.

Make The Most Of A Comfier Situation!

It might be quite annoying and a little awkward at first, but be a little positive with what you’re doing. You’re literally sat in the comfort of your own home – some people would kill for this kind of opportunity! Sooner or later, you’re going to have to start commuting again – they can be pretty frustrating, right?
