First of all, you may find that you need to have some kind of direction. What are you trying to achieve with your writing? Who are your clients? What’s your USP? How can you help them? It’s also quite difficult for you to then think about some of the more business-like tasks, such as invoicing or sending out contracts. From here, you may find that you actually want to have some training too. Because when you’re new, you may find that you’re not all that confident when it comes to pitching for new work. And that’s okay. But you need to learn to get more comfortable. And training can help you here. From writing the pitch to even having a coach or mentor to help you, with training you should be able to figure how can you can grow.

  1. A Goal

Finally, you then need to make sure that you have a goal for what you’re working towards too. Because when you’re able to have something in mind about what you’re trying to achieve, you’ll find that it’s much easier for you to then ensure that you’ve got something keeping you going. It could be a yearly figure that you’d like to earn, a publication you’d like to write for, or something between. This can then motivate you to keep working, and to find success with your new business.
